About
Hi, I’m Jodi! I’m from BC, Canada, and I’ve been an Orton-Gillingham practitioner specializing in both literacy and math instruction since 2009. Over that time I’ve created and accumulated a wide variety of resources, both digital and physical. I love creating multisensory, individualized activities, especially those that involve glitter glue, digital games, or songs.
Something significant I found through my years of tutoring is that while there are excellent decodable books available (I recommend many on my Books page) I was perpetually wanting more options and variety to share with my students. Many students need a great deal of practice decoding text with the specific skills that they have been explicitly taught to improve their fluency. So, I decided to start writing books. I have been writing controlled decodable short passages for years, so I thought, why not turn these into books with fun and engaging illustrations and share them with others as well. You can find my author profile on Amazon under the pen name Amanda Birdie.
I’m currently in the process of making the resources I have tucked away in my filing cabinets available on this site. These resources will be most useful for educators and parents. If you’d like to receive updates about my books and other Orton-Gillingham inspired creations that I’m working on, please subscribe to my newsletter below. Thanks so much for stopping by!
